Living for Truth in a World Gone Crazy

Posted by Paul D. Johnson on

There’s no question that the world is changing quickly. One might even say that it’s gone crazy! Basic views regarding personal ethics, sexuality, race, and religion, are jetting forward with the speed of a comet. So, what do we do? How do we live for Jesus when it feels as if the soil is shifting underneath us? Here are five tips that I hope will help you:

  1. Understand Who You Belong To

If you follow Jesus, you are his child. You will feel distinctly different from this world because you are not of this world, nor do you belong to this world. Your citizenship is in another place.

But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ… Philippians 3:20

Knowing to whom, and where, you belong will help you avoid the trappings of the current cultural fads.

  2. Remember Who Temporarily Runs This Place

As you’re analyzing cultural priorities, it’s good to remember that God put this world under the headship of Satan. Though God is absolutely sovereign, the world system is overseen by the enemy of our faith.

In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God... 2 Corinthians 4:4

Don’t be fooled. Cultural ideals will reflect the nature of its overseer.

  3. Fight the Right Enemy

The Bible assures us that Satan is ruler over this present culture. It is equally assertive that our battle is against the powers of darkness and not against those who disagree with us.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places... Ephesians 6:12

The politician or neighbor who gets under your skin is not your real enemy. Nor should you be at war with the advocate of a cause you despise. Your enemy is Satan. Pure and simple. Direct your anger at him.

  4. Develop and Live By a Biblical Worldview

The Bible is God’s Word. It provides all we need to live according to our status as children of God. Form your opinions, objectives, and lifestyle choices around it.

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work... 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

Other books can be great. The Bible should be central to everything you do and think. It alone is divinely inspired and without error.

  5. Pray for God’s Help

We cannot survive this fast-changing world without the help of God. He has promised to always be with us. He has promised to give us the wisdom that we need to make right decisions.

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him... James 1:5

Though you may feel as if you’re alone, you’re not. God is with you. With his help you can peer through the confusion and corruption of our world and know what God wants you to do. He’s promised to help you.

You can do this! Remember who’s in control and where your battle-ground really is. You’ll then be able to live for truth in a world gone crazy.
